Aer Lingus cuts 670 jobs
Irish carrier Aer Lingus has said that it will be cutting 670 jobs, including nearly a quarter of its cabin crew, as it strives to cut costs as part of wide-ranging restructuring plans.
Cabin crew at the airline will face 230 compulsory redundancies after their union rejected the airline’s restructuring proposals, whilst other staff, whose unions agreed to the plans, will see 440 voluntary redundancies.
Aer Lingus said that, because the majority of unions had agreed to the cuts, more severe cost-cutting leading to the loss of 1,000 jobs would not now be necessary.
