Aldi cleans up with success of own-brand washing-up liquid

Aldi has claimed that its own-brand washing-up liquid is the top family favourite, after it topped the table in a Which? test and beat the UK's best seller.

Up until last year, Fairy had topped every washing-up liquid test since the magazine first started testing it in 1965, but it seems the bubble has now burst, with Aldi's own product costing 59p (500ml) compared to Fairy's £1.25 (433ml). The Which? test also revealed that a bottle of Aldi's washing-up liquid can wash 11,750 plates whilst 59p's worth of Fairy Original washed 4,292 plates.

Tony Baines, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said:  "Last year we were delighted to come first in the Which? test, but to do so two years in a row is fantastic news. This win confirms that shoppers can trust in Aldi's cleaning power."

In June this year, the discounter was crowned 'Best Supermarket' by consumer watchdog Which? beating Lidl, Marks & Spencer and Waitrose. The report, which surveyed 11,000 members of the Which? connect online community, were asked to score all the big supermarkets on customer service, fresh produce quality, own-brand range and availability, store environment as well as value and special offers.
