Cementing their position as the UK's leading baker and following recent strong financial results, Greggs has announced plans to create further jobs with the opening of a new food factory in the South of England.
Performance for the 14 weeks to the end of 6th October saw total sales increase by 5.9%, in large part driven by new shop openings, 70 of which have been opened in the year to date.
With construction of the new factory aiming to commence in mid-2013, Greggs are currently searching for suitable sites. Following an investment of £30-35 million, the factory will be responsible for supporting growth in wholesale and new shop openings, whilst also reducing logistics costs. The wholesale side of the business, under the brand 'Bake at home' has continued to perform strongly as the partnership with Greggs and Iceland performs well.
Greggs currently has a total of 1,641 shops across the UK and on the back of strong demand for its pies, pasties, sweet and savoury snacks, is looking to grow this by 100 in the coming year creating additional requirement for management staff.
