Shopping centre owner sees income rise

Shopping centre owner Hammerson, which owns London's Brent Cross and Birmingham's Bullring, has said that underlying net rental income rose 2.4% in the six months to June 30th after its retail occupancy rate rose to 97.5%.

The group added that it would be increasing its investment in new space within the UK and France, including a new centre in Leeds, for which John Lewis has signed up as anchor tenant.

The group, which recently sold most of its London office space in order to concentrate on retail projects, added that it has spent £100 million raising its stake in its partner Value Retail, which opens cut-price designer outlet stores including Bicester Village near Oxford.
