SSP apprenticeship scheme welcomes 500th recruit

Food travel company SSP has announced that 500 people have now joined its apprentice scheme. The programme, which was launched in July 2010, aims to support future stars of the catering business on the first steps of their career.

Christine Holland, national apprenticeship manager, commented: "Catering is not often young people's first choice of a career, and yet we have a large demand for skilled staff. By providing a structured framework for training and career progression, our apprenticeship scheme allows young people to learn while they earn and has enabled us to recruit and retain a number of really excellent colleagues."

Since its launch, the company has introduced a total of four qualifications and a foundation degree-level qualification is currently being planned which will be crafted in partnership with Coventry University.
