Drivers at a Tesco distribution centre in Doncaster launched a 48-hour strike today in a row over job losses.
Members of the Unite union at the site say they face losing their jobs after being transferred to new employers, Eddie Stobart Ltd, in August. Notices of termination of employment were issued soon afterwards, with no promise that the drivers will be re-employed, said Unite.
About 180 drivers are involved in the dispute and could take further industrial action unless the dispute is resolved, the union warned.
A Tesco spokesman said: "We have robust contingency plans in place to ensure that customers in the Doncaster area will not be affected by the strike.
"We continue to hope that the drivers and Eddie Stobart Ltd will reach an agreement and will keep working with Eddie Stobart Ltd to try to provide alternative roles for all the drivers."
